Thank you so much, Dallas & Purple Party, for all the love and support you've shown me over the last 20 years. Seriously, one of my favorite organizations and places to DJ. If you were at the 2022 Purple Main Event last year, you know what a moment it was to be together after being locked away for so long. I felt it from the very first track. I am ecstatic to share the first hour of my set with you in this new podcast, kicking off with mega smash 'Cold Heart,' and ending with a new 'Purple Rain' remix I produced with DJ Leanh & debuted on this evening. Happy International Podcast Day!

Thank you so much for your support over the years, and for listening with open ears and an open mind. A musical connection is, in my belief, the most powerful, because it transcends words and thoughts. Music is a feeling. It's a vibe. It can unite 100 people in a room speaking 100 different languages. But it can also unite us back to ourselves when we feel lost. For me, it's one of the great loves of my life and it's a privilege to share it with you.

To celebrate Podcast Day, I'm releasing a set that most of you have only heard the first hour. When we went into lockdown last year, Hydrate Nightclub in Chicago started a weekly Zoom dance party called Quarankiki. I had never livestreamed a set before, and was honestly feeling like the world was crashing down upon me. Over the course of a few days, a virus obliterated not just my job, but my entire field of work across the globe. Not exactly the best headspace to be in when preparing set that is supposed to heal and uplift.

But then I remembered - things can only get better. That was the message. The message I needed to tell myself, and the message I knew I needed to share.

16 months later, this is still one of my favorite sets. The second previously unreleased hour features the deep cuts of my set, like a private dub mix of "This Is Me" from Leanh & I, and mashups of "Miss Americana" and "You're Beautiful" I've only played this time. Thank you to Mark, Grayden & the whole Hydrate team who got us zooming and booming safely each week. As special and fun as it was, though, I hope we never have to it again!

The 20th Anniversary of my debut Cherry Performance in Washington DC was April 22, 2001, 5 years into my DJ career. Now 20 years later, I am thrilled to present part 4 of my full DJ set ‘Platinum Cherry After-hours." You can find parts 1-3 here.

In 2001, the only way to build a DJ career was word of mouth. There was no Facebook or Instagram. Or SoundCloud. For people to hear my sound and build a name, I had to reach and impress them in person. Impress them enough to reach the ears of someone in charge. Getting booked and being well received at a Cherry Afterhours in the Northeast region, where I needed a break to build my name, remains a pivotal part of my DJ journey. My career accelerated from first to third gear in one night.

Thanks for joining me as we explore the complex, complicated and often times confusing "feel"ings we all have, one by one through music. For me, the only theme to kick 2020s butt out and welcome 2021 can only be “happy.”

Even in the new year, achieving true happiness is as difficult as finding “the one.” Most days, happiness for me is contentment. When my chips are down, I can sometimes dwell on the negative, even though I know turning my head just a few degrees can change my entire outlook. I think that’s why music plays a pivotal role in my quest for personal happiness. It gives me that nudge I need sometimes to shift my focu. To accomplish anything I set out to do. If Beyonce can find her Angel now, so can I, right? If Florence says the “dog days are over,” then ok, they are! Kylie is asking us to be as one again. I don’t need an engraved invitation. On the flip side, if Gaga isn’t having “fun tonight,” then maybe it’s ok, I’m not either. I’m happy knowing I’m not alone in feeling that.

The “Happy” theme is the perfect outlet for new reworks & mashups : LG’s previously mentioned “Fun Tonight,” T Swifts glorious “Happiness” from her new album, and a 2021 update of the Fire Island classic “Life, Love & Happiness” by Brian Kennedy make their debut here.

The Best of Joe & Leanh - Volume 1

The first remix I ever produced with DJ Leanh from Brazil was "Stronger Together" by Jessica Sanchez. And those two words, "stronger together," is how I would so fittingly describe the relationship with my extremely talented co-producer. Until that remix, I honestly had been struggling with how my remixes were sounding. There were elements of the mix that I couldn't quite figure out, and was growing tired of creating what I thought was sub-par work. When you a music producer, you are expected to be a "band in a box," if you will. You have to know how to run the music production software, and have a basic understanding of music. You also have to be a "drummer," a "bass player," a "keyboard player," and so forth. When we remixed a song, the record labels only sent the vocal parts - the rest is up to us. Drum patterns, percussion elements, bass rhythms, chords, melodic hooks, and so forth, are all for the producers to come up with.

Of course, if you know what you're doing, it's an incredibly satisfying thing to produce a piece of music, and have it go out into the world, and affect people in a positive way. But it's an incredibly daunting task when there are areas where you know you lack in. Having formed a connection with Leanh after playing at his club in Brazil, I reached out to him asking if he would help me on a remix I was currently working on that needed to be finished in a week. It was "Stronger Together." I sent him the work I had done so far, and within a few days, our first co-production was born. Since then, we have formed a musical relationship that's made me fall in love with music all over again.

I am so incredibly proud of the remixes that Leanh & I have produced over the last 2 years. It's been even more rewarding to see the response to these remixes on the dance floors across the words, especially with "This Is Me." We produce music from the heart, and hope that it's received in a positive way. So, thank you so much for accepting this music we made into your lives! May it lift you up, shake you down, and make you feel alive the way it does us!

We'd like to thank Brad Lebeau, Bobby Shaw, Carmen Cacciatore & Orlando Puerto for the opportunity to remix so many great songs, and believing in us & our vision. We are very grateful.

LIVE FROM PURPLE PARTY!

DJing the "GLOW" Closing Event at Purple Party in Dallas this year was without a doubt the highlight of my career! So it's with great excitement to release this 90 minute mix of highlights from the party. The first hour is a direct recording from the first "bombastic" hour of my set - lots of beats, sparse on vocals. The last half hour of the podcast are the highlights from the end of my set - the more emotional, vocal part of the journey.

WHITE PARTY ZURICH!

I'm so excited about my debut DJ performance in Zurich, Switzerland this year for the legendary Angel's WHITE PARTY!! This party is legendary, and some of the biggest names on the circuit have headlined this event.

This set features some of my hottest tracks and vocals right now, including a preview of my new single with Steven Redant, "Together & Always." I close the set with two very special selections: first, the new remix of Rita Ora's "Anywhere" I produced with DJ Leanh, and a special tribute to Avicii, who as we all know passed away earlier this month. "Wake Me Up" was one of many of my favorite songs of his, and I lovingly close my set with it. RIP Avicii.

Top 20 of the last 20 - Part 1

On a late Summer day in 1996, a very young and determined 20 year old boy walked into a gay nightclub in New Orleans called Oz. It was named after the movie, in case you’re wondering. I had a box full of cds that I bought from online shops after scouring the playlists of Susan Morabito and other Fire Island DJs I looked up to at that time. I had no clue what Susan looked liked, or where David Morales lived, or how Michael Fierman styled his hair. Nor did I care. It was a time of pre social media when you fell in love with a DJ with your ears, not your eyes. I had few records too, though I had no clue how a turntable worked at that point. But somehow I convinced the owners of the club I could DJ, and had the music people weren’t hearing in New Orleans at the moment because none of their local DJs were as obsessed with New York and Fire Island as I was. In 1996, Fire Island was the gay circuit. It was the Holy Grail of gay nightlife, in my opinion at least. It taught me what gay men wanted to dance to. Even though I had never taken a step on the island myself, I felt like I could bring that sound to New Orleans, in all of my wildly optimistic youthful ambition.

Oz was in a transitional stage at that moment, and as luck would have it, were looking for a change. Maybe I was in the right place at the right time, or maybe I would have found another way into the career I have now. All I know is that 20 years ago started me off on a journey that I only dreamed of, and keep dreaming of….
